Denver botanic gardens: a delightful oasis in the city

Upon arriving in my new city, I made a beeline for the local botanical garden. What a treasure trove! Not only is membership a steal, but the garden stays open until 8 pm in summer, perfect for a pre-dinner stroll or photography session.

Waterwise wonders

Recent visits revealed a vibrant display of California poppies, prickly pear, yucca, and agave against a backdrop of blocky stone. The 'Snow Leopard' cholla stood out with its spiny beauty.

Even better, the garden attracts a diverse crowd, from photographers to relaxed visitors soaking up the serenity. Spotting a cute rabbit grazing added to the charm.

Rocky mountain delights

The Rock Alpine Garden was a highlight, bursting with spring flowers and fresh grasses amidst conifers. A secluded bench in the Asian Garden beckoned, as did the fernleaf peony's bold red blooms.

Other gems included a beautiful Victorian greenhouse, faux bois installations, and a stunning display of mullein and love-in-a-mist. Discovering my new state flower, the Rocky Mountain columbine, was a lovely surprise.

Each visit reveals new treasures, making this urban oasis a true gem. Whether you're a seasoned gardener or simply appreciative of nature's beauty, Denver Botanic Gardens is a must-see destination.
